Capitol View Apartments
In 1968, the eight-story Oliver Tower was built as a senior living center but was left uninhabitable after a fire ravaged the complex in 2000. The fire gutted the first floor causing over $250,000 in damage, and in 2001 the Housing Commission tried to sell the land to the state, but plans fell through. Oliver Tower was vacant until The Eyde Co. bought the property in 2015, with plans to renovate and re-lease units as a multi-family complex.
Capitol View was designed by the Grand Rapids-based Progressive AE Architects, and WIELAND began work in 2017. The complex contains 96 units, including 88 one-bedroom units and eight two-bedroom units. Community amenities include 24-hour resident lounge and fitness facility, balcony lounges, storage space, courtyards, and picnic areas. The construction was completed by WIELAND in December 2019.
