About Wieland Safety Managers

Wieland’s Safety Managers are expected to take ownership of the current safety program, and provide continuous direction and improvement based on changes in the construction industry and safety practices. Wieland’s structure provides this immediate opportunity, coupled with guidance and leadership of experienced Project Executives. Our Safety Managers are integral to Wieland’s systems and culture, which enables them to provide experience and knowledge needed to keep Wieland employees, its subcontractors, and clients safe on our project sites.

Job Functions

  • Review and update Wieland’s Safety Program on a continual basis.
  • Knowledge and understanding of regulations of Federal OSHA, MiOSHA, NCDOL, SCDOL, DOSH and other state-specific OSHA-approved state plans, in states that Wieland has current projects.
  • Site safety observations including documentation of findings
  • Facilitate corrective measures where warranted
  • Make regular project visits to monitor overall project safety at all of Wieland’s job sites across the country.
  • Conduct audits of the field required paperwork to ensure compliance with Wieland and OSHA standards.
  • Provide leadership and training to large groups of Wieland Employees regularly with updates to safety requirements and standards.
  • Provide leadership and training to large groups of Subcontractors regularly with updates to safety requirements and standards, and project specific safety requirements.
  • Knowledge and understanding of EPA standards with regards to construction.
  • Review and implement project specific safety regulations and standards required by the client. Review and become familiar with client’s specific safety requirements.
  • Provide project specific safety plans and instructions for both normal and special safety conditions.
  • Provide project specific pre-task JHA’s as required.
  • Provide insight and analysis regarding drawings during pre-construction. Inform project teams of hazards that are likely to be experienced and how those hazards can be avoided.
  • Authority to halt and/or direct Wieland employees and it’s Subcontractors on safe work practices
  • Provide reports to Project Executives and Senior Project Managers in a timely manner following a site visit. Follow-up with Project Teams as necessary to ensure reported items have been implemented / corrected.
  • Availability in person, over the phone/text, and via email with prompt response time.
  • Flexibility to travel for project demands. Travel will be coordinated with Project Executives and Contract Administrators.
  • Ability to walk a project site and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Versed in Commercial, Industrial and Residential safety requirements.
  • Moving about long distances
  • Ascending/Descending stairs and ladders
  • Remaining in a stationary position for a prolonged period of time
  • Working in extreme weather
Qualifications

Qualifications

Five to seven years of experience serving as a commercial Safety Manager, requiring professionalism and integrity.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have proficient knowledge and computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and Project.  Must be receptive to emerging technology and software programs.  Excellent organizational, supervisory and decision-making skills, with attention to accuracy and deadlines.  Currently possess CHST Certification or ability to pass the exam within 6 months of employment. OSHA 500 not recommended, but preferred.

Qualifications

Works directly with Project Team, including the Project Executives.  Must be able to work with a variety of project teams. The Safety Manager is key to Wieland’s success and strong communication skills are an essential attribute.
